WCA is pleased to announce our spring discussion series. This is an opportunity to come together once a month to talk about copyright in libraries. Each month we select a topic for discussion and a facilitator will do some stage setting to get the conversation going; these are opportunities to learn from each other, share stories, and build community.
Copyright, Fair Use, and Parody
January 30th, 2026, 11am Pacific
Facilitator: Ellen Dubinsky, University of Arizona
Who doesn’t like a good laugh or some sardonic commentary about our culture or society? Fair use provides a legal path to comment on our culture by re-using existing cultural material. Let’s explore some examples of fair use in action by looking at court cases where the transformative nature of parody was on trial.

March 27th, 2026, 11am Pacific
Facilitator: Freya Anderson, Alaska State Library
